Causes    of    The    French    Revolution

For more than a hundred years before Louis XVI took the throne in 1774, the French government had a lot of debts. This was a result from the long wars waged during the reign of Louis XIV. During the next few years the financial crisis steadily worsened. After a bad winter in 1788 the peasants were in an angry mood. This combined with inequality among the three estates lead the French to a Revolution.
